What we’re about
The Broadleaf Writers Association is, at its heart, a nonprofit educational organization of writers and writing professionals assembled to instruct and inspire writers in their efforts to refine their craft. We aim to educate writers through seminars, webinars, programming, an annual conference, peer groups, and networking events that employ editorial-minded associates willing to lend their time and energy helping writers grow as artists. Getting published is the goal of every writer. We believe the craft of writing is the key to publication, and it is our desire to inspire writers reach that goal.
The Southern region is deep in a varied collective of talented writers in need of a spotlight. Through our efforts, through the community of writers we cultivate, we hope to establish an atmosphere designed to bolster the skill and understanding of writers both young and old, from any genre.

10 years strong!
Unbelievable though it is, the Broadleaf Writers Conference is turning ten (!!!) and we’re ready to celebrate! In addition to our usual schedule of sessions, workshops, and pitch and mentoring sessions over two days, we’re adding some celebratory components you won’t want to miss. At the very top of that list: A group of all-star speakers from the past nine years unlike any ever assembled.
Featuring bestselling authors Patti Callahan Henry, Allie Millington, Kimberly Brock, Jeffrey Dale Lofton, Kimberly L. Jones, Piper Huguley, Clay McLeod Chapman, Shaun Hamill, and the writer of Wolverine: Origin and comic book and video game icon Paul Jenkins, we’re throwing out the red carpet for some of your favorites in 2025! When our list is complete, we’ll have more than a dozen amazing authors, and feature a deeper list of literary agents and editors for you to meet with!
The 10th Annual Broadleaf Writers Conference will return to the Decatur Library in Decatur, Georgia on September 20-21, 2025! Registration is now open: REGISTER HERE.

Be sure to submit your first page prior to the conference in order to take advantage of this fantastic opportunity to get your manuscript on the right path!
Thanks in large part to our experience conducting virtual conferences through the pandemic, we’re excited to offer a virtual component as well! For any reason that you may have, you can now choose to attend our in-person conference from your home! With a virtual registration, you still get the option to add a pitch session (these will be handled prior to, or after, the conference, depending on availability of the agent), attend any panel or workshop you would like, and ask questions during the Q&A portions of each session. As well, every paid attendee will receive complete recordings of all panels and workshops! So, no more missing sessions! You get to see them all!
If you would like a sample of how we handle the virtual feed to our conference, here’s our recording of the First Pages Critique from last year.
If you’re coming from out of town, there are plenty of hotels in the area. We once again have a room block at the Courtyard Marriot in downtown Decatur (2 blocks from the library). The rate offers you a considerable discount and is only available until August 22nd or the block is full, so book right away!
Broadleaf Writers maintains a strict Code of Conduct for all attendees and speakers. Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with our expectations.
