End-of-Summer Blue Ridge and South Mountain Hiking Weekend


Details
Hike in two Mid-Atlantic states before things get cold, wet and sucky.
Friday: drive to VA and set up camp in Camp Roosevelt Recreation Area. Time permitting, do a short hike in the Blue Ridge/Shenandoah National Park.
Sat.: hike 2-3 hikes in the northern part of the Blue Ridge. These hikes (and Friday's) may be:
Overall Run Falls Trail
Thompson Hollow Trail
Compton Peak
Mary's Rock
Stony Man
Whiteoak Fall (Upper)
Hawksbill Summit (-)
Sun.: pack up camp and drive north to South Mountain State Park, MD. Hike on the Appalachian Trail to the Annapolis and Black Rock overlooks. Head back, then drive to the Washington Monument State Park and hike another section of the AT, this one covering the Fox's Gap and Turner's Gap areas of South Mt. where parts of the American Civil War battle of South Mt. were fought in 1862.
Drive back.
