About us

Every Saturday morning I run a drop-in meditation class in Bromley Common, and this group is the easiest way to find out about it, ask questions, and turn up.

I am Robert Mitchell. I have taught mindfulness and meditation in Bromley since 2013, over 5,000 classes so far, and the Saturday class is where it all started. It is a friendly, practical hour with no religion, no chanting and no incense. Just clear, well explained meditation skills and the science of why they work.

Who comes

People come from Bromley and from up to six miles around: Orpington, Keston, West Wickham, Beckenham, Chislehurst, Petts Wood and Bickley. Some have meditated for years. Many have never tried it. Most arrive because something in life is heavier than it needs to be: stress at work, a mind that will not switch off at night, worry that runs on a loop, or just a feeling of being on autopilot. If that sounds familiar, you are exactly who the class is for.

What we do together

Each class is one hour. I teach a meditation technique, explain what it is and how it works in plain English, and then we practise it together. There is time for questions and a bit of discussion, because understanding what you are doing is half the skill. Techniques change from week to week, so regulars keep learning and newcomers can start any Saturday. Everything is taught sitting in an ordinary chair. You do not need to be flexible, quiet, calm or good at concentrating. Those are the things we are training, not the entry requirements.

What people say

The class is rated 4.9 from more than 40 public reviews. The words that come up most often are calm, clarity, better sleep and a different way of looking at life. One regular put it simply: "It has made a huge difference to me."

Why join this group

Joining means you will see each Saturday's theme in advance, you can ask me anything before you come, and you will hear first about the five week mindfulness course, the sleep course and the day retreats in the Kent countryside that many class regulars go on to. There is no pressure to do any of that. Plenty of people have come to the Saturday class for years and nothing else.

If you have been meaning to learn to meditate properly, this is the place. Come this Saturday.
