"Cranksgiving" Ride

I recently learned of a "Cranksgiving" bike ride that occurs in New York City and other locations. Riders race to designated grocery stores to buy items to be donated to a food drive after the bike event.

I'd like to do a similar event, but not as a race. http://img2.meetupstatic.com/981263258369601089/img/smileys/smile.gif We'll meet at the entrance to the West Hyattsville Metro station (Green line), and bike down the street to an Aldi's grocery store. If you haven't shopped at an Aldi's, it is a very basic grocery store - but where you can get a lot of "bang for your buck"! (I know, because I shop there a lot!). http://img2.meetupstatic.com/1723755200050492932723/img/smileys/biggrin.gif The food that we purchase will be donated to Martha's Table ( http://www.marthastable.org/about-us.html ) in D.C., where we will ride to (about 6 miles away), to donate the items. Martha's Table is located in the U Street area. I will have copies of a print-out of their Food Program Wish List to give each rider. Each rider will need to have a bag to transport their items. As far as how much to buy, the Cranksgiving ride in New York City suggests a total of $10-$15, but I will leave that total figure up to your generosity. http://img2.meetupstatic.com/1723755200050492932723/img/smileys/biggrin.gif

After dropping off the food items, we can go to lunch at one of the many available restaurants on U Street. You can then catch the Metro to your final destination, or ride back with me to the West Hyattsville Metro Station.
