National Go Birding Day!

Details

LET'S GO BIRDING at Ontario Place!

We'll meet at the High Park entrance on Bloor St W. and ride east along Bloor to Shaw. We'll fly south on Strachan to the Martin Goodman Trail and into Ontario Place landing at The Trillium Park.

Francesca Bouaoun will provide us with birding tips on what we may see at Ontario Place. Francesca has been birding around Ontario Place for the past several years and volunteering with the group Ontario Place for All. She is greatly interested in city parks and the urban ecosystem, and is normally out on a lakeshore trial with binoculars.

If you are meeting us at the waterfront, please be at Trillium Park Pavillion at 10 AM.

Our loop will be completed after we ride west and back up through High Park to end where we began. For those who want to sit and sip a while, we'll go to nearby Hannah's Cafe and Bakery at 1822 Bloor St W.

Route Distance 15 km
Estimate 3 hours for slow & safe cycling along with birding!

Have binoculars? Bring them! #GoBirdingDay

Over the years, data from the community science site eBird has recorded over 170 species of birds at Ontario Place. In winter, a great variety of diving ducks and migratory waterfowl are scattered around the shoreline. In spring, the West Island resounds with the trills of dozens of warblers. In summer, the sky around the Cinesphere is a spectacle of swallows. Fall is a season of sparrows and finches. Significantly, 15 species sighted are recognized on the provincial Species-at-Risk list.

Let's enjoy a few of the nearly 10,000+ bird species that exist in the world together.
