Details

The next Brooklyn Kotlin is on! Join us at Etsy's office in DUMBO Brooklyn for awesome talks by Huyen Tue Dao, Mike Nakhimovich, and Jeremy Rempel. We'll be exploring the stdlib, coroutines, and Kotlin Native.

We'll have snacks and refreshments and be in Etsy's huge amazing auditorium and also be raffling off some books from raywenderlich.com. Come join us for an early start to a Kotlin summer!

NOTE: The entrance to the event will be on 55 prospect and photo ID is required for security.

About the talks:

Dissecting Kotlin: Considering Conventions -- Huyen Tue Dao
One of the best places to learn idiomatic Kotlin is the stdlib. Now I don’t mean just using the stdlib but going to the source, literally. In this session, we’ll look at some of the methods and tools inside the stdlib and dig into how they’re written to reveal intermediate to advanced language features, slick syntax and conventions, and high-level abstractions to help you write more fluent objects and interfaces.

Coroutines: you owe it to yourself -- Mike Nakhimovich
Threading is hard but Android forces us to do it. Coroutines take something that is hard and makes it laughably easy. Come laugh about threading with me

Kotlin Native -- Jeremy Rempel
An overview of the Kotlin Native technology and related ecosystem and how it relates to mobile development. We'll walk through the creation of a sample KN app, architecture and unit tests that will deployed to both Android and iOS.
