Second United Lenape/Lunáapeew Nations Pow Wow in Prospect Park

Join us for a vibrant, freeform, no-host gathering at the Second United Lenape/Lunáapeew Nations Pow Wow at the LeFrak Center at Lakeside in Prospect Park, Brooklyn! This historic event, the first Pow Wow in Prospect Park since 1972 and only the second Lenape Pow Wow in New York City, is a celebration of Indigenous culture, art, and community.

A freeform no-host event. You are welcome to communicate with each other in the event discussions or on Meetup messages. Coordinate with each other for the best experience.

We welcome members of Practice Photography: Skill Sharing Workshops, Brooklyn Photo Explorers, and NYSP+ (New York Street Photography Plus) to capture and share the beauty of this cultural experience.

• Duration: Planned for 2 hours, though the Pow Wow may extend up to 6 hours.

## About the Pow Wow

This two-day, family-friendly event brings together the Lenape/Lunáapeew, the original Indigenous peoples of this region, and neighboring Indigenous nations to celebrate their cultures through:

• Dancing and Drumming: Experience the powerful rhythms and movements of Indigenous dancers and drummers.
• Artisan Crafts and Food: Explore unique crafts and enjoy traditional foods from Indigenous vendors.
• Cultural Learning: Connect with the rich history and traditions of the Lenape/Lunáapeew, whose ancestral homelands include Brooklyn.

The Pow Wow is a revival of a tradition last held in Prospect Park from 1916 to 1972. It offers a rare opportunity for Brooklynites to engage with the original stewards of this land, learn about their heritage, and celebrate their resilience. This event is part of the Prospect Park Alliance’s Imagine Lefferts initiative, which honors the Indigenous Lenapehoking and the African communities impacted by the Lefferts family.

• This is a no-host event, so come prepared to explore independently or connect with fellow meetup members on-site.
• The event is outdoors, so dress for the weather and bring water, sunscreen, or umbrellas as needed.
• Respect the cultural significance of the Pow Wow by following guidelines shared by organizers, especially when photographing or engaging with participants.
• Stay for as long as you’d like—while we’ve planned for 2 hours, the festivities may continue up to 6 hours.
