Brown Girl Books, Bevs, and Bites

We’re a book and social club for women of color in their late 20s and 30s in the DC area who love good books, good vibes, and exploring the city. We read a variety of genres by women of color authors and meet up at bars and restaurants around DC to connect and discuss our picks. Beyond book club, we sprinkle in other fun hangouts throughout the year. Some of our non-book meetups may include:

• Dance classes
• Game nights
• Hikes
• Movie nights
• Trivia nights
• Live performances
• Local events like holiday markets

What to Expect
We meet every three weeks and split each book into two discussions: the first half on a Wednesday evening and the second half on a Saturday evening. At the start of the year, we randomly assign meetup hosts and book genres. The host selects a book from that genre using our shared reading wish list, and we stay connected through a WhatsApp group chat for pop-up social events and shared interests.

There’s a one-time $5 fee for new members to help cover our Meetup subscription. Many of our meetups require RSVPs, so please update yours if plans change, especially for events with limited spots. To stay in the WhatsApp chat, members must attend at least three events each year. Folks who don’t meet this minimum may be removed to make room for new members.

Community Vibes & Conduct
This group is all about building real community, trying fun things together, and making friends. We ask that everyone:

• Show up as your authentic self
• Be welcoming, respectful, and inclusive
• Help create a space where everyone feels comfortable participating

We do not tolerate:

• Harassment or intimidation of any kind
• Discrimination based on identity, appearance, beliefs, or background
• Sexual harassment, stalking, or unwanted attention
• Disruptive behavior or monopolizing group time

If someone’s actions take away from the group experience, organizers may intervene and ask that person to leave.
