We're back ๐Ÿ‘‹ and we can't wait to see old and new faces this month -- we have some fantastic speakers, tasty pizza, and our usual bar ๐Ÿฅ‚

๐Ÿฆ– Theme is "never thought if they should", inspired by Jurassic Park

๐Ÿค  Safari hats optional, but very encouraged (we're wearing them)

๐Ÿคช Expect new tech and slightly whacky talks, with some useful take aways

๐Ÿ“ Central Birmingham spacious venue with a theatre, bar and roof terrace

๐Ÿฃ We're planning something new for people "breaking in to tech"

PHIL HAWKSWORTH - NETLIFY - PRINCIPAL DEVEX ENGINEER

How would The Fonz do this?

Web developers have never had more tools and toys at our fingertips. It can be tempting to use them all in innovative and creative ways. Sometimes this is ideal. Sometimes this is dangerous. Knowing the difference is key. In my career I've had to get creative to work around surprising constraints on client projects, I've built ridiculous experiments to prove concepts, and I've advocated for simplicity and restraint.

In this talk I'll try to show why these things combined don't just make me a massive hypocrite, and explore some creative patterns and their applications in modern web development.

JUSTIN CHADWELL - NEW SECRET STARTUP ๐Ÿคซ - SOFTWARE ENGINEER

gRPC Inception: more layers of network than might feel absolutely necessary

---

GUY DUNTON - THE ECONOMIST - STAFF SOFTWARE ENGINEER

Building a Gameboy Emulator: 5 years into a quick hack

Abstract coming soon - Guy will be talking about building a Gameboy emulator in Rust, popping the bonnet on how the Gameboy works under the hood ๐Ÿ‘พ

๐Ÿป We'll be heading to Purecraft after the talks to carry on chatting for anyone who wants to

We're a friendly bunch, but we know turning up in a room of new people is sometimes tough. If you want to arrive with some new mates pop your details here (http://arrive.thousand.events) once you've got your ticket to be paired up to have a coffee/drink/chat before the event ๐Ÿฅฐ

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to message Luke, Jack, or Dan -- we're always happy to chat!

---

We have a limited number of tickets, if you can't come please mark yourself as "Not Going" on Meetup in plenty of time to allow someone else to come ๐Ÿ’›

We will be taking photos and videos at the event, if youโ€™d rather not be included please message ahead or tell Luke, Jack, or Dan on the day ๐Ÿ“ธ

We expect everyone to follow our code of conduct

https://brum.js.org/code-of-conduct

We're looking for more supporters to help fund these events and make them possible, speak to Luke, Jack, or Dan, or drop an email to (hello@thousand.events) if you may be interested โœŒ๏ธ
