What we’re about
Hello film lovers! This group targets art films, classics, cult films, and independent cinema-making from various parts of the world. We aim to try different venues across Brussels (and maybe even beyond), but avoid going to mainstream cinema. Cinemas of interest would cover Vendôme, Cinéma Palace, Flagey, Bozar, Cinématheque, cinemas in cultural institutes, and others. From time to time, if successful, we will aim to organise screenings in special venues with invited film critics; directors, and actors. Members can also propose a film, a screening venue, and act as co-organisers. Looking forward to meeting you!

Hauntingly poetic, visionary, and quietly devastating, Pirjo Honkasalo’s portrait of children in war was made through various methods of subterfuge. This extraordinary award-winning film portrays emotionally ravaged children in their devasted and scorched homeland, haunting live-stories inherited from an adult-born hatred.

“If influence is the criterion for determining the significance of a film director,” writes Russian film scholar Denise J. Youngblood, “then Fridrikh Ermler is perhaps the most important director in Soviet film history.” Why he does not join the ranks of Eisenstein, Kuleshov, and Vertov as one of the great masters of Soviet filmmaking is unknown. Yet his legacy as an intricate craftsman of deceptively simple stories layered with psychological depth and technical proficiency lives on in his work.
