Yorgos Lanthimos goes sci-fi in Bugonia, a bonkers kidnapthriller riddled with political subtext. Nihilism, slapstick and absurdism go hand in hand when two conspiracy theorists kidnap a powerful pharmaceutical company CEO, convinced she’s an alien out to destroy Earth. Political activism has rarely been weirder, or more enjoyable, than in Lanthimos' universe.
