Debate Night: AI In Education

Education is in a bad spot. Educational achievement according to the PISA rating is dropping in a lot of countries, particularly in the West. Teachers are more burnt out than ever, and in countries like Belgium, many teachers do not last longer than 5 years on the job. Many students report difficulty with focus and motivation. The changing student body, which has created more diverse classrooms than ever, has not been sufficiently addressed by education policy, and many teachers do not know how to tackle both the opportunities and the challenges that diversity presents.

At the same time, artificial intelligence (AI) is developing quickly. While the speed of development, the efficacy of AI solutions, and the applicability of AI are all under discussion, the consensus is that AI technology is moving forward and will impact the world. Could AI fundamentally transform how education works, and could it help to tackle the challenges that we are currently facing? Or will AI end up falling flat, unable to transform education in the way that the sector needs?

Participants who wish to speak are strongly encouraged to bring a paper and pen.
