The Women in Machine Learning & Data Science (WiMLDS) Meetup aims to inspire, educate, regardless of gender, and support women and gender minorities in the field.

We are back for a special online meetup: a joint meetup between the Brussels & Paris WiMLDS chapters!

All genders may attend our meetups.

A Zoom link will be provided prior to the meetup.

13:00 – Introduction by the Brussels & Paris WiMLDS teams

13:10 – “Women in EU Technology and Data Policies” by Margrethe Vestager, Executive Vice-President for a Europe Fit for the Digital Age

Topics:
· Why it is important to promote the role of women in technology (non discrimination, contribution to digital economic growth, shaping of technology).

· Artificial intelligence:
o The objectives of the Commission’s White Paper
o The gender dimension of artificial intelligence (women participation in AI research, bias of outcomes)

· Data:
o The objectives of the Commission’s data strategy
o Women’s participation in the data economy

· Women in technology:
o Reasons for under representation of women
o Ways for addressing this
