Agenda
17:00 – Introduction by the Brussels WiMLDS coordinator
17:05 – “Multimodal Search and Recommendation” by Katrien Laenen, Postdoc at LIIR, KU Leuven
This talk will describe how to obtain fine-grained representations of visual and textual product features from fashion e-commerce data to enable multimodal search and retrieval. In this setting, a multimodal query is composed of a query image which shows a fashion product that the user likes and a query text which allows to change certain product attributes to fit the product to the user's desire. Furthermore, this talk will present a comparative study of how fine-grained product features extracted from visual and textual data can be fused in semantic, multimodal item representations to enable outfit recommendation, where a variety of fashion product features play a role in creating outfits.
17:35 – Demo of results for outfit recommendation
17:45 – Q&A Session

In the last year of her Master, Katrien did a master thesis on cross-modal fashion search which sparked her interest in cross-modal representation learning for fashion search and recommendation. Afterwards, she joined the LIIR group as a PhD to perform research on this topic. Katrien obtained her PhD in January 2022. Since then, she has worked as a postdoc in the LIIR group researching explainable recommendation.
