Small Joys, Long Visual Stories — A Moving Panorama Workshop
On the United Nations International Day of Happiness, the Brussels Creativity Lab invites you to slow down and take a closer look at joy.
In this workshop we’ll explore happiness not as a grand finale, but as something quietly unfolding over time. Together, we’ll work with the moving panorama — an early storytelling art form and ancestor of cinema — to tell stories that stretch small moments into long visual journeys.
A moving panorama is a hand-cranked storytelling device: a long illustrated scroll wound onto two spools and viewed through a small window as it slowly unrolls. In this workshop, you’ll be guided to create a short story, visualise it on a long piece of paper, and construct a simple cardboard viewing box to bring it to life.
Our focus will be on small joys, long stories: Stories built from tiny pleasures: a shared laugh, light through a window, a familiar route through the city. By drawing these moments out across the length of the scroll, the panorama becomes a way to slow happiness down so it can be noticed.
Expect a hands-on, playful session where experimentation is encouraged and artistic skill is not a prerequisite. You’ll meet others, exchange ideas, and discover how storytelling, rhythm, and movement can reveal joy hiding in plain sight.
Come curious, leave with a story — and maybe a new way of noticing happiness as it gently unfolds.
All materials will be provided.
Ticket: €5 in cash at the door. Ticket covers cost of materials and some snacks.
