April meetup: Graph databases, Anomaly detections and more

Hello everybody,

I am happy to announce that our April meetup will take place during Bucharest Big Data Week (http://bucharest.bigdataweek.com/) conference days (but separate from this conference entrance/registration) and with this occasion I thank the organizers for proposing to host our meetup during their conference days and on their location. The meetup is open to our community members as usual.

As subjects we have new topics and solutions presented, thanks Calin and Serban for taking time and present in our meetup. We hope as well to update the agenda with one of the conference speakers as well - an update will come soon.

Intro to Neo4j: Uncovering Hidden Insights through Graphs, Calin Constantinov (https://www.linkedin.com/in/calinconstantinov/)

Abstract: Centered around Neo4j, we will begin by looking over which gaps Graph Databases aim to fill and where do they position within the SQL/NOSQL world. After detailing common use-cases, we will dig a little deeper by attempting to model the graph behind a simple movie reviewing application. Finally, by using Spring Data Neo4j and leveraging the expressiveness of Cypher, we will quickly enhance our app with otherwise hard-to-code recommendations.
Speaker Bio: Calin Constantinov - Senior Software Engineer @ iQuest Technologies and Neo4j Certified Professional Java Software Engineer with just over 5 years of experience. Long-time passionate about untangling multidimensional data and interpreting patterns, I am currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Social Data Analytics using Graph Databases. One of my current focuses is on building real-time, social recommendation engines which integrate heterogeneous data from various sources.

Anomaly detection in production infrastructures, Serban Mateescu (https://www.linkedin.com/in/serban-corneliu-mateescu-86206611a/)

Monitoring systems is not only tedious, but also imprecise when fault detection relies solely on prescribed thresholds or, worse, on humans. As systems differ greatly from one another, deviant behaviors also diverge, rendering basic observations obsolete. This presentation highlights the process of implementing an anomaly detection solution, focusing both on time series analysis and on managing the data flow. The algorithms in this field usually require a lot of processing power, so we are going to tackle critical topics such as distributing the workflow and choosing the right technologies.
