June meetup: distributed search engines and a use case for Hadoop

Details

Hello everybody,

I am really happy to announce our next meetup - on June 7th - in a new location, with new topics, old friends and new friends of our meetup. Radu will discuss distributed search engines, looking at both Elasticsearch and Solr, and Valentin will present their experience with Hadoop and Cloudera CDH. Looking forward for both presentations, many thanks Radu and Valentin for taking time to share your knowledge with us. Special thanks to Radu for also co-organizing and for DB Global Technology for hosting us in this meetup.

6:30 - 7:00 Gathering and socialization

7:00 - 7:40 Big Data Search and Analytics with Elasticsearch and Solr, Radu Gheorghe (https://www.linkedin.com/in/ragheorghe/) @ Sematext

This is an introductory presentation to the distributed,Lucene-powered search engines: Elasticsearch and Solr. We'll start by going over the use-cases these two solutions are good at and those they're bad at.Then we'll dive a bit deeper into the internals to justify those advantages and disadvantages. We'll compare Elasticsearch and Solr, while trying to keep flamewars in check. We'll end with a short demo,so you get a feel of how you'd interact with them.

7:40 - 8:20 Cloudera CDH and how we use it, Valentin Ursu (https://www.linkedin.com/in/vdursu/), Big Data Engineer & Team Leader @ eMAG.

During this session we’ll go over Cloudera Distribution (CDH), version 5.12. We’ll showcase Cloudera Manager, as well as its most popular components (parcels) and how we leverage them, but also other Big Data technologies we use to add value to our business.

8:20 - 9:30 Pizza and drinks sponsored by Netopia.

Look forward to see many of you there,

Valentina
