The first presentation, held by ING Hubs Romania's Alex Dobrinescu and Ștefan Bobocescu-Kesikis, emphasizes building a cloud-agnostic data warehouse to ensure data portability and integrity, while during the second presentation Adore Me's Alex Giurgiu discusses the journey of enhancing data quality within an organization, highlighting the collaborative effort needed to maintain data integrity.

First talk:
Cloud Agility: Portable Data Warehousing
With the prevalence of cloud data warehouses, organisations often end up tied into specific cloud service providers, creating challenges with vendor lock-in and limiting flexibility. This dependence on a single provider can hinder scalability, increase costs, and complicate data migration strategies, ultimately restricting your organisation’s agility in adapting to new opportunities and challenges.
We want to show you how to build an operational history data warehouse on-premise or in the cloud, but in a way that ensures that your data remains portable and not confined to a single platform provider. By leveraging snapshots in external tables, we will maintain the integrity and accessibility of your data, allowing for seamless transitions between different local or cloud environments. Additionally, we’ll implement versioning of these external tables and create unified historic views. These views will allow you to access data from a single interface, regardless of how its format has changed over time, ensuring consistent and comprehensive insights.

About the speakers:
Alexandru-Ioan Dobrinescu, Chapter Lead Engineer // ING Hubs Romania
Alex joined ING Hubs Romania in 2021 as DevOps engineer in the Data Lake ecosystem. He now leads a chapter focused on Big Data solution development, where his team is responsible for transitioning the Operational History database of the most successful Data Lake in ING from traditional databases to Big Data technologies. Their focus is on generic and configurable data pipelines.

Ștefan Bobocescu-Kesikis, Engineer // ING Hubs Romania
Ștefan has been a dedicated Big Data specialist at ING Hubs Romania since 2022. He plays a pivotal role in the Big Data Solutions chapter, where he takes on complex challenges and builds cutting edge tools to empower our ETL engineers. Ștefan is also passionate about sharing knowledge and nurturing a culture of continuous learning.

Second talk:
Quality Around Data: Insights on Adore Me's Journey
Data quality is crucial for every organization, and Adore Me is no different. Four years ago, our Data Engineering team started enhancing and building more solid systems to ensure the quality of our data, all housed in BigQuery. What began as simple checks has now evolved into a robust, multi-layered system that ensures high data integrity. Along the way, we realized that maintaining data quality isn't just a Data Engineering task - it's a mission that involves the whole company.
Join me as I take you through Adore Me's data quality journey: where it all began, how it's developed over the past four years, and the important lessons we've learned. I'll also share insights into what can still be improved.

About the speaker:
Alexandru Giurgiu, Director Data and BI Engineering // Adore Me
Alex joined Adore Me in 2020 as a Data Engineer. He now leads both the Data Engineering and BI Engineering teams. These teams are responsible for end-to-end data development, from the data lake to the data consumption layers, with the goal of building and maintaining a robust data platform.
