A Systematic journey to distributed services and Cloud - Joint Meetup

Details
Join us on the 16th of February at the Incremental Community event powered by Systematic and get on board with our mission to bring a valuable contribution to society through the software we develop.
The purpose of this Tech event is to meet and engage with like-minded professionals who wish to make a difference by developing software with impact.
Besides networking, you will have the chance to witness the Systematic journey from distributed services to Cloud. More, you will deep dive into the recent release of Spring Boot 3 and Spring Framework 6 and find out what’s new with a demonstration of patterns and techniques for cloud-native development.
The Agenda:
18.00 → 18.30: Registration
18.30 → 18:45: Welcome & introduction
18.45 → 19:25: Talk 1 – ‘From monolith application to distributed services’ by Mihaela Gheorghe & Catalina Dobre
19.25 → 19:35: Networking break
19:35 → 20:25: Talk 2 – ‘Next-Generation Cloud Apps with Spring Boot 3’ by Thomas Vitale
20.25 → 20:30: Q&A session
20:30 → 21:30: Networking, food & drinks
Talk 1 - From monolith application to distributed services
Abstract: A journey about going from monolith to microservices, from context to decision.
Have you wondered how the theoretical best practices differ from reality? "Are microservices good for our application?”, “Why should we go to cloud-native and how to get there?", "How about legacy?" Join us to discover how there is really no perfect answer!
Speaker 1: Mihaela Gheorghe is a Software Developer and a University Assistant Teacher with more than 10 years of experience in domains such as Telecom and Defense. Currently, she works as a Lead Systems Engineer @Systematic, part of the Defence team department, developing applications both in the back-end and front-end areas. She is a reliable developer who likes to break down every challenge and enjoys helping whenever her expertise is needed.
Speaker 2: In over 9 years of her career, Catalina has worked with different applications in various fields, focusing mainly on software development, using technologies such as Java, Spring, Angular, but also design pattern concepts, architecture and security, which helped when moving from Systems Engineer to Software Architect. Currently, Catalina is a Senior Architect and deals with Command&Control software for NATO member countries. When she is not trying to move the monolithic application into the future of microservices, Catalina makes a lot of Legos and puzzles, reads and plays video games
Talk 2 - Next-Generation Cloud Apps with Spring Boot 3
Abstract: The recent release of Spring Boot 3 and Spring Framework 6 laid the foundation for the next generation of modern Java applications. This session will highlight what’s new, and demonstrate patterns and techniques for cloud-native development.
Support for generating native images with GraalVM is now part of the core framework, making it straightforward to build efficient applications with instant startup time and reduced memory consumption. The new Java 17 baseline and support for Jakarta EE 10 unlocks many new features and integrations.
Observability is now a core tenet of the Spring ecosystem, with monitoring and tracing built into each Spring module and powered by Micrometer and OpenTelemetry. Web applications can now rely on new features to handle errors based on the Problem Details for HTTP APIs specification. Finally, HTTP clients can now be powered by convenient interfaces for which the framework generates the implementation.
Speaker: Thomas Vitale is a Software Architect specialized in building highly-scalable, resilient, and secure enterprise applications. He develops software solutions at Systematic, Denmark, where he’s been working on modernizing platforms and applications for the cloud-native world, focusing on developer experience and security. Thomas likes contributing to open-source projects like Spring Security and Spring Cloud. He’s the author of “Cloud Native Spring in Action - With Spring Boot and Kubernetes”, published by Manning, where some of his main interests converged, such as Kubernetes, Buildpacks, Knative, and other cloud-native technologies.
Systematic Development Center Romania is the second largest Systematic office with more than 130 employees. Established in 2017, our goal has been on consolidating a community of highly skilled professionals responsible for developing and continuously improving our products and solutions for the Defence, Healthcare, Library and Learning sectors.
