Haunted Taverns Part 2: The Rising Sun Inn and the Legend of Scary Mary

Details

As we continue our focus on haunted places this month, we're going to head down to the Upper Bucks/Montco border area to visit the very historic and very haunted Rising Sun Inn in Telford (Franconia Township, Montgomery County).

Originally known as Gerhard's Tavern, The Rising Sun Inn has been serving customers and weary travelers since 1752 in a building that dates to 1739. Today, it's a modern restaurant with an eclectic menu featuring bison and elk.

Like the nearby Red Lion Inn, the Rising Sun Inn was a stop for the Liberty Bell when it was evacuated from Philadelphia and relocated to Allentown during the Revolutionary War. It was also a stop on the Underground Railroad during the 19th century.

The resident ghost is known as Scary Mary. She's been known to appear suddenly in the building's lobby, re-arrange chairs in the dining room and even invite guests to "come upstairs" to the second floor dining room. A paranormal investigation found both female and male ghostly entities in residence at the Rising Sun Inn.

So join us for drinks, lunch and ghost stories. Meet in the bar area (the most original part of the building) for a pre-lunch drink at 12:30. We'll then accept Scary Mary's invite to head upstairs to the second-floor dining room for lunch and learn more about the history and the ghosts. Perhaps some of the employees will fill us in with their first-hand experiences of the paranormal at the Rising Sun Inn.

See you there, if you dare!
