We’re heading to the Börzsöny mountain range, starting and finishing in the village of Márianosztra.
Our route takes us through a leafy forest and then a pine forest, up the snowy northern slope of Eagle Mountain and down its warm southern side. The second peak is Salt Mountain, with a fairly steep but manageable descent. The third is Bald Mountain, where I really love the cross at the top — it looks magical against the bright sky!
From all three peaks you’ll get beautiful views of the surrounding mountains, and on a clear day, you can even see the Danube.
If we have enough time, we’ll also visit the basilica that was built here at the beginning of this century.

Distance: 12.6 km
Elevation gain/loss: 522 / 522 m

Meeting Point 08:55 at Nyugati Railway Station, at the beginning of platform 5. (Please don’t be late — our train leaves at 09:08!)

You should already have a ticket to Szob (available at ticket machines or through the MÁV app).
From Szob we’ll take a bus — please bring cash for the tickets (800 HUF round trip). Avoid large bills — the driver cannot give change.

If you have a Pest County pass, you don’t need to buy tickets.

If you prefer to come by car, we can meet directly at 10:25 at the trailhead: https://maps.app.goo.gl/UPHWc9GWCguaWgqK9

Return time depends on the group’s pace. Estimated: 15:20 arrival to the bus stop, 16:55 arrival to Nyugati.

What to Bring
