Big Data Meetup 2018/10 - GPU Analytics

Details
Our special guest this time will be Aaron Williams, VP of Global Community at OmniSci (formerly MapD). OmniSci, a startup based in San Francisco, builds open source and enterprise GPU-enabled SQL database solutions.
Talks:
GPU-Accelerated Visualization: Interactive Exploratory Data Analysis at Scale
The goal of this talk is to deliver an introduction to Graphical Processing Units (GPUs) and their application to general purpose analytics. There is a great deal of excitement and hype around GPU computing, with good reason. The implications of GPU technology for machine and deep learning have already been enormous. But GPUs can do more than train neural networks - and there is a blossoming open source community to prove it. Aaron will discuss an application of GPU computing: the use of GPUs for performing super fast database operations on big data.
Speaker Bio:
Aaron is responsible for OmniSci’s developer, user and open source communities. He comes to OmniSci with more than two decades of previous success building ecosystems around some of software’s most familiar platforms. Most recently he ran the global community for Mesosphere, including leading the launch and growth of DC/OS as an open source project. Prior to that he led the Java Community Process at Sun Microsystems, and ecosystem programs at SAP. Aaron has also served as the founding CEO of two startups in the entertainment space.
