FULL! Mending is beautiful: Kintsugi-themed Art Therapy workshop in English

Details

Mending is beautiful! Kisvilág is a big fan of the idea of kintsugi and giving things and people a second, third, fourth chance. This is why we are thrilled to announce that on 1 May, the lovely Jennifer Nyerki is coming to Szövetség utca to introduce this concept focusing on your own wellbeing and mental health journey at a free art therapy session.

Important: We do not recommend the workshop to people with serious neurological disorders or those undergoing psychiatric treatment. The workshop does not qualify as and does not replace psychotherapy but is a great addition to the self-discovery journey.

Kintsugi dates back to the 15th century and means “joining with gold” in Japanese. A broken object (ceramic) is glued together with lacquer and then the seams are covered with gold. Kintsugi is part of a philosophy of embracing our flaws and life’s fragility. Wabi Sabi, a worldview related to Kintsugi, is built around this, the acceptance of imperfection.
Many of us look back at our past (events) with shame and criticism. If I hide my mistakes well, others will surely not see them and accept me. When I am healed/perfect, I will be worthy and loveable. Sound familiar? We grow up with these and many other misconceptions and live our everyday lives. We lie not only to ourselves, but also to others.
The crack lines will not disappear from our lives, no matter how much we try. Life will not be the same but what matters is, how we reframe and give new meaning to our life story. With time, we can embrace and celebrate our imperfections and become stronger and more resilient. The path forward might seem scary at times and look different then what we are used to but there is always a light at the end of the tunnel.
Vulnerability is not our enemy, but our biggest ally. The greatest gift to ourselves and others is to be ourselves.
Who is the workshop for?

- Those who are open to discovering themselves.
- Those who enjoy creating in a community and want to connect with others.
- Those who would like to break away from everyday life for a few hours and spend this time on themselves.
- Those who are curious and want to try something new.
- Those who want to get closer to the Japanese way of life with the help of creative techniques.

What to expect:

- Topic of your choice, what is on your mind – vulnerability, authenticity, body image, self-acceptance, relationships (friendship, family, romantic), work...etc.
- Creative exercises (individual and group) that help you gain insight into the given topic
- A safe space where you can experience the power of being in a group and be yourself without taboos
- Conversation, sharing, connection
