Welcome to the Silent Book Club Budapest!
This group is for anyone interested in reading a good (e-)book with a cup of coffee/tea and among like-minded people.
Here we don't have a designated book to complete for a deadline, only a pleasant environment for reading your current favourite book, and sharing your impressions of it if you wish.
The meetings are in person, mostly in a Café, with a simple (usually two-hour) agenda:
- half an hour for introduction of you and your chosen book
- one hour for quiet reading
- half an hour for sharing what you have read, impressions, etc.
Whether you are a trained reader, who seeks for community, an eager novice, who wants to make reading a habit, or just someone, who wants to slow down and enjoy the present for a bit, you are at the right place!

-------------📚 Tarts egy kis szünetet a hétköznapi rohanásban és gyere el csendes könyvklubunkba a Fővárosi Szabó Ervin Könyvtárba. Hozd magaddal az aktuális könyvedet, merülj el benne egy órácskát, majd oszd meg velünk, amit olvastál.
🗺 Hogyan találsz meg minket:
Visszatérünk a Központi Könyvtár fő épületébe, méghozzá a felújított, átalakított és átkeresztelt régi tanulótérbe. Keresd a Metszéspont termét: a könyvtárba belépve haladj tovább a liftekig, de mielőtt elérnéd őket, fordulj balra a mosdók irányába. Az ott található lépcsőkön gyere fel fél emeletet.💡 Az eseményen való részvételhez nem szükséges könyvtári regisztráció vagy beiratkozás, csak jelezd, hogy a Csendes Könyvklubra jössz.
🥤 Étel-ital:
Kérünk, zárható üvegben hozz magaddal innivalót, ha az esemény alatt megszomjaznál. Másból inni, valamint a teremben enni nem lehet, de az épület átriumában üzemel kávézó.🕑 A menetrend:
17:00–17:30 – Érkezés és bemutakozókör: mit fogsz olvasni?
17:30–18:30 – Csendes olvasás
18:30–19:30 – Kiscsoportos beszélgetés a könyvekről (opcionális)🍹 Az esemény után igény szerinti afterezés a Prága Kávéház és Sörözőben (Baross u 8.), hogy ne csak könyvekről beszélgessünk! Ha csak erre jönnél, írj üzenetet, hogy ne kerüljük el egymást.
🇭🇺 Fontos: Ez egy teljesen magyar nyelvű esemény. A bemutatkozó kör az elején és a kötetlen beszélgetés a végén is magyarul zajlik.
Az olvasás csendje persze mindenkié, így nyugodtan hozhatsz bármilyen nyelvű könyvet.✨ Önkéntes hozzájárulás A Meetup-felület fenntartására elfogadunk adományokat, hogy eseményeket az eddig megszokott színvonalon és nyitott emberek között tarthassuk. Kérjük, amennyiben lehetőséged van rá, támogasd a könyvklubot! Az eseményen lesz adománygyűjtő doboz és Revolut QR kód. Köszönjük mindenkinek, aki eddig támogatott minket!

Welcome to the Monthly Book Club — the discussion edition of the Budapest Silent Book Club for those who enjoy reading the same book and sharing thoughts together.
This May, we’ll be reading Why Nations Fail by Daron Acemoglu and James A. Robinson. The book explores the monumental question of why some nations are wealthy while others remain locked in poverty, diving deep into the powerful role that political and economic institutions play in shaping a country's destiny.
It’s a thought-provoking, sweeping read that opens the door to deep conversations about history, economics, power, and the structures that govern our societies.
🕕 Time: 18:00–20:00 – Group discussion about the book (no silent reading hour this time)
📍 Location: To be announced (will confirm the venue at least one week before the event!)I’ll bring a few discussion prompts, but everyone’s thoughts are welcome. Whether you loved the book, found it heavily debatable, or didn’t quite manage to finish — you’re invited.
