Meet, Draw, Recharge - Metropolitan Library Palace Rooms

Dear All!

For our next Sketch Circle meetup, we’re heading to the Metropolitan Library to explore the beautiful palace rooms. The library’s historic rooms are full of character, with ornate details, grand interiors, furniture, bookshelves, chandeliers, staircases, in other words: plenty of visual elements to inspire sketching.
If you like spending time in libraries, drawing, and meeting people, this might just be the perfect autumn plan. 🍂📚✏️
After the session, we’ll also have the option to continue the conversation and socialize over a coffee in the cafeteria.

Important to note:

• If you don’t have a library card, you’ll need to register at the reception first to obtain a reading card. It costs approximately 400 HUF. You’ll need your ID and residence card for registration, which takes around 5–10 minutes.
• Inside the library, we’ll need to follow the library rules and keep conversations quiet, so please be mindful of the atmosphere while drawing.

Program

• 10:00 — Meet in the hall/reception area and wait for anyone who needs to register.
• 10:15–11:30 — Explore the palace rooms, find your spot, and sketch at your own pace.
• 11:45 — Meet in the cafeteria to share our sketches, chat, and wrap up the session together.

Skill level: No experience is required. Whether you are drawing in public for the first time or are a professional artist, you are all very welcome! The focus is simply on creativity, enjoying the process of drawing, and recharging in good company and a nice environment.

Duration: 1.5-2 hours

Location: Metropolitan Ervin Szabo Library, 1088 Reviczky street 1. The Palace rooms can be found on the 4th floor & to the right from the elevators

Meeting point: library reception area

Language: English and/or Hungarian.

Joining:
The event works with any number of participants, but we appreciate if you RSVP — or cancel your RSVP — in advance, in line with your plans. There is a technical limit on this platform to accept 10 attendees only but in reality there is no limit.

Come to practice, come to draw for joy, or simply come to spend an hour making something in good company. Hoping to have you there!

*Tips for sketching in public - what you'll need if this is your first time:

• Paper — loose sheets or a sketchbook
• A hard wooden drawing board or hard-back sketchbook
• Graphite pencils of different softness — a set of HB, 2B, 4B, and 6B can come in handy
• If you plan to sketch with watercolours, a portable, refillable water-brush might be your friend, along with water-soluble/aquarelle pencils. They give you a lot of flexibility when time is short!
• Markers and fountain pens are also great choices for sketching
• Nothing is quite as quick as charcoal or pastel — but you might need a few tissues or a towel to clean your hands afterwards :)
