R meetups are back! This time we are focusing on a new topic at a new venue, but having good ol' pizza and beers after the talks :) Come and meet the core and new members of the local R community!
We will start with an introductory talk on transformers by Balint, then Misi will download images of famous NFTs, and Gergo will call OpenAI's CLIP model to generate captions for those:
Bálint Kovács: Transformers are taking over.
Data scientist @ Starschema
Transformers are a family of neural networks that achived breakthroughs first in natural language processing, but now are adapted to many other areas. The concepts behind these models will be introduced during the talk, including the attention mechanism and how it can be adapted to different use-cases.
Mihály Orsós: The $3 billion ape.
Founder @ Bull Ranks
Gergely Daróczi: Calling Python from R to generate image captions.
Sr. dir. of data ops @ System1
Using R for image processing might raise a few eyebrows, but since calling Python (or Java, Rust, or C++) has became even easier and less surprising than running C and Fortran code at the end of the day .. we can do everything from R -- sticking to our loved user interface and programming language :) This talk will introduce a company hackathlon project, where we have created tools using R (Shiny) and Python (OpenAI's CLIP model) to auto-generate and manage captions for images.
