The Negative Impact of "Attachment" on Romantic Relationships

Details

A major tenet of Buddhist psychology is that the mind is primed or conditioned with a deep preference for certain outcomes (i.e., "attachments"). This priming is perhaps most notable in one's romantic life, in who one chooses as a partner and how the relationship is envisioned to be. Yet, as we all know, there is inevitable disappointment in all of our relationships as, one by one, each partner defies our expectations and desires.

In the next meeting of the Buddhism and Romantic Love meetup group on Monday, January 14, 2019 (7:00 to 8:15 PM), we will (1) explore how our "attachments" to what we think and want negatively impact our love relationships and (2) consider how Buddhism conceptualizes a potential solution. The meeting will consist of a 20-minute presentation that will be followed by a Q & A period/open discussion, then we will conclude with a brief guided meditation.

Our next meeting of the Buddhism and Romantic Love meetup group will be on Monday, January 14, 2019 (7:00 to 8:15 PM) at my office at 5020 Campus Drive, Newport Beach, CA 92660. The fee is $25.00 payable via cash or check at the time of the meeting. This meeting is appropriate for people who are new to Buddhist psychology and philosophy as well as those who may be quite advanced in their knowledge base or who engage in meditation practice.

If you plan to attend, please RSVP ASAP to Dr. Tobin at 949-338-4388 or jt@jamestobinphd.com as space is limited to the first 10 persons who register to attend. This group is psychoeducational and does not constitute psychotherapy.
