Craft Workshop - Steampunk it!

Details

This is a once-a-month craft workshop. Each workshop has a different theme. The goal is to create a craft and learn simple skills you can take home and use on your own projects. If you would like to showcase or work on your own crafting projects (quilting, yarn, painting, woodwork), please do - you are welcome! You are not required to be a Hackerspace member to attend this meetup.

In this workshop, we'll make something steampunk. What is steampunk? Long story short, it's the Victorian aesthetic fused with modern or futuristic technology. For more info, see this link: http://www.steampunk.com/what-is-steampunk/

We won't do any one specific craft at this meetup. You get to show off your creativity! I will provide metallic spray paint, steampunk hardware (like rivets, hinges, gauges, valves, gears, leather scraps), and basic craft supplies (hot glue gun, brushes, duct tape, etc). You provide the item you want to steam-punk-ify. As always, I'll have a few sample items on hand so everyone can participate even if a few forget.

This workshop is free, but a donation of $5 is appreciated to offset costs.

What can you re-purpose? Here are some suggestions:
water or Nerf guns
computer keyboards or other old hardware (just don't pick something valuable, in case it doesn't work after painting it)
structured hats, like a costume top hat
journals or sketchbooks
jewelry boxes
phone cases (I have a lot of iPhone cases I'll bring - free to take)
goggles
Be creative!
