Going Vertica: When Columns Are Better Than Rows

Details
*Note: We'll be starting an hour earlier than normal so our visiting speaker can make his flight in time.
Vertica is a SQL column-store, designed for high-performance analytics. In this talk I will explain the basics of Vertica's architecture, from the storage layout to distributed query-processing, and its evolution from shared-nothing clusters to cloud deployments.
Niccolo' Meneghetti is a senior software developer at MicroFocus Vertica. Before joining Vertica, he was a PhD student with the Database Group at UB, where he graduated in 2016.
Davis Hall is on White Rd, not far from the Bookstore. The Jarvis B lot is just across the road. No parking permit is required after 3PM.
We will continue our tradition of light refreshments at 6:00, due to time constraints the meetup will start promptly at 6:00 PM.
A big thank you to our new sponsor Rooftop Data (https://rooftopdata.com/) as well as our returning sponsor Stark & Wayne (https://starkandwayne.com/)
