Let's Hike Scharabum, Purple Sage and Powder Canyon trails
Details
• What we'll do
This hike is 5.4 miles with about 853 feet gain at the Peter Scharabum Regional Park. It is a loop over the Scharabum, Purple Sage and Powder Canyon motorway. Bring plenty of water, hat, sunscreen and snacks! We will take water and rest stops, photos and enjoy the scenery.
Well-behaved dogs on leash are welcome at owner discretion (due to heat exposure). Although it is mostly shady on the way to the electric towers at the top, there are exposed sections when coming down before reaching the walnut tree shaded Powder Canyon motorway. The park is the natural habitat of quails, rattlesnakes, bobcats, mountain lions, et.al.
• Important to know
Parking is $8 to $10 inside the Peter F. Scharabum Regional Park, 17250 Colima Rd, Rowland Heights, CA 91748, or you can park free at the shopping mall parking lots next door or across the street.
We meet at the picnic tables to the right of the entrance kiosk and will start hiking by 8:00 am.
If interested, you can join us for optional eats at a local restaurant in Rowland Heights afterwards.
