Come Walk with us!
Bullying comes in all shapes and forms. It can be verbal, physical, passive aggressive, straightforward, or even accidental. It can occur in any situation and happens to people from all walks of life. It often occurs in school but even reaches to the workplace, in public, or in the home.
The causes and reactions to bullying are endless, the most devastating responses include self-harm, substance abuse, and suicide. Over 14% of high schoolers have considered suicide and almost 7% have attempted suicide. According to a study by Yale University, victims of bullying are 2-9 times more likely to consider suicide than non-victims. Girls between the ages of 10-14 are at higher risks than non-victims. Nearly 30% of students have been bullied or are bullies themselves. Thousands of kids stay home from school in fear every day. For many kids, school is a safe haven. It’s where many kids will get their only meal for the day, where they can feel safe away from home or find guidance. But when the issue of bullying arises, this is taken away from them.
Causes of bullying often reside in the home. Kids and adults alike project home-related abuse and anxiety onto others as a means of coping. Bullies also project their own insecurities as a means of coping. Oftentimes kids will target others because of race, gender, sexual preference, and appearance.
Whether you don a full cosplay, wear your favorite merch, sport your favorite fashions, or simply wear your everyday clothes, we would love to have you. Come out and walk with us Sept. 23rd to spread awareness. See our Facebook page for more information. Thank you.
