Advising the apex executive

Details

For an organisation to truly change how they work, the commitment of the “apex exec” - the person at the top of the power hierarchy - is critical. There is no way around it: any change without that person driving it to happen will wither. This can be demoralising for the rest of us if we feel we don’t have that commitment from them. Don’t let it be. We can help make it happen, in two ways. The first is to make those changes anyway. They can survive for a while, building experience and expertise in new ways, and most of all building proof points. And the second is to help the apex exec understand the potential of better ways of working, through those proof points and through those ideas from outside the organisation. This meetup will focus on that second part: how to prepare the ground with the apex exec, and to plant the seeds, to convince them of the need and the potential for better ways of working.
Rob England, Dr Cherry Vu, and Laura Powers will discuss this topic with our audience at the meetup.

Laura Powers is the CEO of the global Business Agility Institute, of which our meetup is a part. The Business Agility Institute is a research and advocacy organization on a mission to bring modern, human-centric ways of working to the business world. Over the course of her career, she's held a number of engineering and leadership positions & is living proof that you never quite know where your next career move may take you. She has been involved in the design of electronics for space applications, aircraft engines, diapers, electric cars, and software systems at Hewlett Packard, Agilent, [Sales.com](https://sales.com/), and eBay - as well as several startups you’ve never heard of. At BAI, Laura masterminds a series of never-ending experiments to run and build the Institute using the same modern, human-centric ways of working that we research, advocate, and share with the business agility community.
Dr Cherry Vu is CEO of Teal Unicorn. Together with Rob England, they provide consulting and training to make work better: better results, better lives, better society. Their focus is new ways of managing to enable new ways of working. They work in Vietnam, New Zealand, and around the world, producing advances in productivity, positivity, and culture. They are co-authors of the 5-star books The agile Manager, Open Management, and more best-seller management and parenting books in Vietnamese. Cherry brought the Business Agility and Open Management concepts into Vietnam and is helping the country's business community to apply them. She is very successful in consulting and coaching organisations to advance themselves from the conventional ways of working and managing to new ways.
