Bustlin' Brussels Beer Balade 2: Hal to Hanssens Artisanaal

Join us for a relaxed 5 km walk from Hal to Hanssens Artisanaal, one of Belgium's traditional lambic producers.

We'll meet at Hal station, very easily accessible and just south of Brussels, and make our way out of the city and into the greener surroundings of the Zenne Valley, heading toward Dworp and Hanssens Artisanaal. It's an easy-paced walk through some of the quieter and more scenic parts of the area, with plenty of time to enjoy the surroundings and chat along the way.

I'm a fellow beer lover and walking enthusiast, and I'll be leading the walk and guiding everyone along the route. I've put the route together with the aim of finding a more scenic and enjoyable way to get from Halle to Hanssens, rather than simply taking the most direct route.

Our destination is Hanssens Artisanaal, a traditional geuze blending house where lambic is blended into geuze and allowed to mature further. They're exceptionally opening their doors to the public for a special weekend, giving us a chance to finish the walk with some geuze at the source. Hanssens doesn't open their doors often, so if you're interested in geuze or lambic beer, this is a great opportunity to experience one of the Pajottenland's best. You can learn more about them at their website.

You don't need to be a serious hiker or a beer expert — just come ready to walk, explore a little, and enjoy a beer at the end.

Entry is free, and visitors can enjoy the bar, where Hanssens will be serving a selection of lambic beers, as well as the brewery shop with their products.

It's a great opportunity to discover a little more about the traditional craft of geuze and enjoy the atmosphere at one of the region's traditional geuze blending house.

There's no set end time for the brewery stop, so you're welcome to stay for another beer, browse the shop, or head home when you're ready. Everyone can make their own arrangements for getting back.

The main event is the walk itself, but hopefully we'll have plenty of time at Hanssens to enjoy some good lambic and good company afterwards.

Please wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather.

The walk will go ahead unless conditions are particularly bad.
