About us
Butoh Lake has been a regular Butoh stage in Poznań since 2022, the only place in the region where world-class Butoh artists from Japan, Germany, Italy, and the UK regularly meet a local community of practitioners and audiences.
Butoh doesn't impose a fixed body shape or gender role, it's a space where non-binary and queer people find room to move too, free from expectations of how a body "should" look or perform. But our community is much wider than any one group: you'll find professional performers, students, actors, and dancers here, alongside office workers drawn to Japanese culture, theatre, or personal development. We have travelers, IT specialists, and people fascinated by martial arts too because dance, like fighting, is deeply rooted in the feet and the ground. What connects us is curiosity, not age, job title, or background.
We build a space of acceptance and diversity, where anyone, regardless of age, background, profession, gender, or orientation, can discover their own inner freedom.
In this group, you'll find:
🩰 Butoh workshops: from beginner-friendly open sessions to intensive workshops for professional practitioners, lled by artists from Japan, Germany, Italy, the UK, and beyond, as well as the local scene.
🎭 Performances and shows: regular Butoh performances you can simply attend as an audience member, no dance experience required.
🍵 Post-workshop gatherings: shared outings after sessions, where you can talk with the teacher and other participants, and exchange experiences and impressions.
🤝 A community: diverse in age and background, united by a shared curiosity: Butoh, Japanese culture, mindful living, and working with the body.
📅 Event updates: you'll be one of the first to know about new workshops, performances, and visiting international artists in Poznań.
Practical info:
Butoh Lake operates under Fundacja Jesteś Wszystko Contemporary Artists Cooperative. Most of our events are paid (ticket prices are always listed in the individual event description) we've kept this stage running for 4 years entirely on our own income, with no ongoing public funding. Every event has an in-person host on-site to welcome you and help you find your footing.
Join us if you're looking for a place where the body is danced, rather than dancing and where everyone, regardless of experience, is welcome.

Me·Mento - Memory - Moment (lvl. OPEN)
The improvisational body existing in each moment.
A moment running through memory, a memento to reach new experiences.
Break habits and find the body in momentum.
Collect and leave new memories in an instant.
Here we begin to dance, Me·Mento.
The workshop develops original movement through physical training, body awareness, and improvisation with image, gesture, space, and relationship. This edition focuses on solo performance: through improvisation exercises, participants find the core of their own theme.
Physical training is based on Noguchi gymnastics, Butoh methodology, and elements of Tai-Chi. The work opens the whole body to deeper layers of sensitivity, cultivating energy from the body's center (Tanden), and developing an honest dialogue between inner sensation and outer expression.
The workshop moves through solo, duet, and group improvisation. Through intensity and reduction, each participant can dive deeply into movement and translate it into individual expression — finding their own body, reality, and presence.
Conducted in English, without translation. A working command of English is required to follow instructions and inner-work guidance.

About Yuko Kaseki
Yuko Kaseki is a director, choreographer, Butoh dancer, performer, improviser, and teacher based in Berlin since 1995. Founder of the dance company cokaseki, her solo and collaborative works have been presented in over 30 countries. Her performances are vivid, poetic landscapes — an alchemy of Butoh, improvisation, and live art, rooted in transformation and exploring the presence of the outsider.
