On Monday the 4th September we are inviting all interested to join a talk about Serverless by James Thomas from IBM.

We assemble at 18:30 pm and we start with a talk by James Thomas on "Taming Dragons: Building Multi-Provider Serverless Apps With The Serverless Framework". Afterwards we are looking forward to discussions and socializing while enjoying food and cold beverages.

Abstract:

Serverless Framework has recently introduced support for multiple serverless providers You can now deploy serverless applications to OpenWhisk, Google Cloud Functions and Azure Functions as well as AWS Lambda. This allows you to develop platform-independent serverless applications. James Thomas has been working on the OpenWhisk implementation. In this talk, he will introduce the new feature, show you how to run serverless applications on different providers and explain the challenges in developing platform-agnostic serverless apps

James Thomas is a “Developer Advocate” for IBM's Cloud Platform, helping developers build scalable cloud applications. Having accepted a summer-long internship with IBM as “something to do” before starting his post-graduate degree, James is still here eight years later. Managing to find his way into the “Emerging Technologies” division, James has been able to work on everything from the largest retail banking site in Europe, been a leading open-source developer for a JavaScript toolkit before working on the first commercial system for IBM Watson as the UI Technical Lead.
