Walk along Shelbourne to assess proposed transportation options

Details
On the street observations are an important way to assess the feasibility of the 4, 3, and 2 lane options being considered by Saanich for transportation on Shelbourne Street. With measuring stick and cameras in hand, we will walk down Shelbourne from McKenzie to Derby and see first hand how a 3 meter sidewalk/bike lane will fit next to the 4 lane street. We'll also discuss how the street could be utilized if the 3 or 2 lane options were constructed. We will consider how bikes and pedestrians will share the space and the challenges the 1.5 meters allotted to each group might pose. Plus we will observe traffic flow patterns and driver behaviour.
The information gleaned from this walk will inform discussions at future Shelbourne Valley Stakeholder meetings and in planning community walks to coincide with the Open Houses Saanich will hold when the Shelbourne transportation options are presented to the public.
Friends of Shelbourne Valley are welcome to invite family and friends who are interested in coming along. The walk will occur, rain or shine, and depending on weather, a suitable venue will be chosen for an after walk discussion.
