Critical Thinking in the Age of AI by Matt Archibald

In an era marked by rapid advancements in AI-enabled technologies, analysts and critical thinkers are presented with powerful tools that can transform data analysis. This talk explores the intersection of AI and critical thinking, emphasizing that while AI tools can enhance data collation, sorting, and summarization, they should never replace the essential cognitive functions of human analysts. Maintaining critical thinking processes and structured analytical methodologies is crucial to avoid biases. Analysts need to sharpen their critical thinking skills as adversaries also leverage AI for increasingly complex operations. Additionally, it is vital to be aware of potential biases and inaccuracies in AI-enabled tools, whether intentional or accidental. The talk will also discuss how AI can augment analysts' abilities by presenting data in innovative formats, helping to uncover patterns and trends that might otherwise go unnoticed. Attendees will learn how to effectively harness AI tools while maintaining rigorous critical thinking to navigate the complexities of modern data analysis.
