Intro to NodeServerless

What is "SERVERLESS"?

This meetup will be educational. While we intend to make this FUN (possibly quite booze-influenced), it will firstly be a technical deep dive and could change how you view computer science. In fact, Node developers face some of the toughest computer science topics out there. This would definitely interest Scala, Haskell and Go programmers (worth familiarizing with Node) in addition to the NodeJS and JavaScript community.

We prefer to use the 'six pager' format that Amazon does at the start of a meeting to make sure everyone is on the same page. That said, to make the most of the time we encourage attendees to look up the following concepts in advance:

• serverless (general, not just Amazon's flavor)
• AWS Lambda or similar cloud offerings
• lambda calculus
• von Neumann hardware design
• topology theory - manifolds
• category theory - monads, lift and drop
• pi calculus (Robin Milner)
• reactive calculus (Greg Meredith, rho calculus - but not blockchain)
• dev ops DAG tools
• flow based programming and Node-RED
• persistent memory (Intel PMEM model)
• database stored procedures
• SQL views vs tables

It doesn't matter if you don't deeply know about all of the above before the meetup, but it is important you try and orient yourself to have some level of familiarity in addition to any development experience you already have. We'll tie in these concepts during the meetup.

There is a very big world out there beyond lambda calculus - and the future of software is AI automation. We'll equip you with the knowledge to prepare for that future.

During this meetup, we will cover where we see the software industry heading and share some ideas behind NodeServerless.
