What makes human beings civilized?

For our first topic, let's start with a big one!

Are we truly civilized? Are we becoming more or less civilized as time goes by? Does altruism, compassion and fairness contribute to our notion of being a civilized society, and if so are these qualities evident today?

Meet at 7.30pm for an 8pm start. We'll begin by introducing ourselves and discussing how the group can work best. Then we'll get down to the evening's main topic.
