AI for Good Meetup - Fight Climate Misinformation

Join this AI for Good project that aims at combatting climate misinformation and greenwashing. Problem statement: most people accept climate change as real, however, they don't know how take action to challenge the misinformation and greenwashing about it.

To solve this problem, we aim to start with building a simple bot that would target greenwashing on social media and challenge it with facts and then, if it's proven successful then move to a more comprehensive solution for the other types of misinformation.

Key tasks for today:

1. Query a data store to pull out information on corporate Twitter handles that used #EarthDay
2. Find or create a dataset of corporate carbon footprint
3. Open-source the project, e.g. creating good documentation, prioritising tasks to contribute to, marketing the project
4. Find a university/research group or a charity partner to co-own and take this project forward

We are looking for volunteers with the following skills:

• Data Science / Data Engineering (data scrapers, classifiers, NLP)
• Backend and Front End Software Engineering (plugins, mobile apps)
• Climate change science (climate facts, denial tactics, inoculation)
• Marketing specialists (consumer behavior, go-to-market strategy)
• Website developers and content writers
• We also need strong team leaders!

You doN'T need to have any specific professional experience. Your motivation to explore and make progress by doing is more than enough.
