Featured Talk: Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Modularization

Speaker: Hartley Harris, P.Eng, ICD.D – President & CEO, Catch Engineering

We’re excited to welcome Hartley Harris for our September meetup. Hartley will present “Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Modularization”, highlighting two recent projects completed in collaboration with Higher Ground Consulting. These projects showcase the electrical design of skids for the 1st and 2nd generation Prologis Mobility Charging Islands (PMCI).

The PMCI 2.0 is a second-generation charging island designed to provide DC Fast Charging (DCFC) to heavy-duty electric vehicles, supporting both public and private fleets. The modular system architecture features three key components:

1. Grid Interface Module
2. Charging Module
3. Energy Module (optional)

Hartley will share lessons learned from these cutting-edge projects, insights into modular EV charging design, and the future of scalable charging infrastructure.

### About the Speaker

Hartley Harris, P.Eng, ICD.D is the President and CEO of Catch Engineering, a Calgary-based consultancy he co-founded in 2006. With nearly 30 years of experience in electrical engineering, project execution, and regulatory leadership, Hartley has guided Catch through multiple energy recessions, growing it into a trusted firm serving clients across Canada and 11 U.S. jurisdictions.

Under his leadership, Catch has expanded into electricity generation and energy transformation, supporting complex projects with a focus on safety, quality, and innovation. Hartley is registered as a Professional Engineer in seven Canadian jurisdictions and has led dozens of engineering-based investigations.

He lives in Calgary with his wife (a fellow engineer) and their four children. When not leading transformative energy projects, Hartley enjoys snowboarding in the winter and fly-fishing in the summer.
