We are pleased to welcome Grant Manyheads, who will be presenting on “The Lifestyles of the Blackfoot-Speaking People: Past and Present.”
Grant will take us on a journey through time, exploring the traditions and lifeways of the Blackfoot ancestors and the resilience of Blackfoot culture as it continues to thrive today.
His presentation will cover:

  • An introduction to the Blackfoot People and the lands they call home.
  • Blackfoot experiences, origin stories, and the rich body of Indigenous knowledge passed through generations.
  • A historical overview from pre-contact times to the events leading up to Treaty #7, including the negotiations between the Blackfoot Confederacy and the Canadian government.
  • The lasting impacts of these events on both the Blackfoot People and Canada today.

Grant Many Heads is the Senior Cultural Interpreter at Blackfoot Crossing Historical Park, which is a crucial site for interpreting the history and culture of the Blackfoot people. He plays a significant role in educating about Blackfoot traditions, history, and the connection to the land. He emphasizes the historical significance of Bison/Buffalo to the Blackfoot way of life, detailing how their territory was defined by following migrating Bison/Buffalo herds.
In addition to his work at the park, Grant conducts online workshops that focus on teaching Blackfoot language and cultural history. These initiatives have attracted considerable interest, illuminating the importance of heritage for both the Blackfoot Community and non-indigenous learners.
Through his presentations, Grant seeks to instill pride in Blackfoot children and community members, ensuring that their rich culture and stories are shared and remembered.
