Andrew Pylypchuk currently is an Account Executive working with Planet Labs (https://www.planet.com/), as well as president of the board with the Alberta Geomatics Group (https://www.albertageomaticsgroup.ca/). His career began in the remote sensing industry in the province of British Columbia, working with Pacific Geomatics as a Project Manager. In this role, he was heavily involved with generating imagery databases for full motion aviation simulators that were utilized in both military and civilian training.
Afterward, he took on a position with BlackBridge Geomatics where he transitioned from Senior Project Manager to Regional Sales Manager – there he supported channel partners in their sales efforts and developed new business verticals.
In 2015, BlackBridge Geomatics was acquired by Planet Labs – Planet Labs was established back in 2010 by a group of ex-NASA scientists, which focused on imaging the entirety of the Earth’s surface daily in addition to making global change both visible and accessible. Planet Labs designs and manufactures Triple-CubeSat miniature satellites called Doves, which form a satellite constellation that provides imagery of the Earth at 3-5m optical resolution. The imagery collected through this platform provides relevant information that can be utilized with climate monitoring, crop yield prediction, urban planning, and disaster response. As of 2017, Planet also acquired Terra Bella from Google, which encompasses the SkySat constellation of 7 high-resolution satellites.
Today, Andrew’s focus is on the agriculture industry. He works directly with visionary industry leaders to leverage the world’s largest constellation of Earth imaging satellites. With more than fifteen years of experience within the geospatial industry; Andrew knows how to combine business development and product management to develop and deliver customer-oriented solutions. His understanding of the science behind satellite imagery and image processing, as well as his ability to utilize new technologies, has been especially useful in driving growth for both Planet’s partners and customers.
Andrew's presentation will be regarding Planet: Mission 1, where the goal is to image the whole earth daily; with over 200 satellites in orbit we can now view the earth daily. Beyond Mission 1, Planet will create a queriable earth bringing analytics to the imagery. What does this mean for the future?
