Doug West started his surveying career after a serious helicopter crash that ended his Remote Heli-Paramedic career in 2003. He worked his way through oil & gas, then large P3 projects as a structural and civil surveyor, and eventually started a geomatics group at an engineering firm here in Calgary. Over the past six years, Doug has developed specialized technologies in 360 mapping and shallow water bathymetry/hydrography. He has also worked with sensor and boat manufacturers to develop specialized shallow water systems.

With Doug’s experience in developing specialised technologies, he will be discussing the application of technology such as scanning to develop digital twin models, UAV augmentation and applications, and autonomous surface vehicle sonar applications. Each will be discussed in brief with project application examples and lessons learned.
