Everyone writes the languages they speak on a name tag.

This is so everyone can see what languages people speak 😊 Common languages we have had in the past are:

All levels are welcome! We have had other languages too that are not on the list above.

RVSP is required.

Due to limited space, RSVPing every week you want to attend is required. Doing so also allows me to make a reservation and provide an accurate number of attendees to the bar manager.

Expect a friendly and casual vibe.

Where to park (it's easier than you may think).

There are parking lots as well as street parking. I personally park a couple blocks away in the residential area. There tends to be more space so I don't need to drive around incessantly looking for a spot to open up. I've never had any issues finding space in the residential area.

About me

I'm a polyglot who speaks English, French, Spanish, Mandarin, and Gujarati. I also speak basic Ukrainian, Portuguese, and Hindi. I started and have run the Calgary Language Nerds since 2016. I love what I do! Be a part of the journey on social media @polyglotazren, podcast, or blog.

**A final important note**

Regular attendees know that we had to take a break from events. We were asked to leave our regular space and it took me longer to find a new venue than I thought it would. With the sports season, the places I have looked into are all booked up with people who often pay up front for a reservation of our size.

Therefore, moving forward I will be asking all attendees to spend a minimum of a $10 spend per person, plus tip and tax. Otherwise, the places we frequent eventually come to resent us for not taking up lots of space without spending as much as they need to run a profitable business. They then, inevitably, ask us to stop booking there.

This has happened 3 times in the 8 years I've run this group. All 3 places even went way out of their way to walk me through the financials of their bar and showed me how our group was causing the bar to lose money. Eek. I felt rather guilty.

I realize it's a little awkward to ask for a minimum spend. However, it is clear now that without doing so, there are too many people who do not purchase anything, or, from the perspective of the bar, do not purchase enough for it to be worth them hosting such a large group.
