Draw-string leather pouch. Lesson 1 :Template creation.

Details

This will be the first in a series of 4 classes where the students will create a draw string leather pouch. The classes are designed to teach a range of skills needed in creating a beautiful finished item from scratch. This class will cover the creation of a template/pattern for creating a leather project. Students will create the template and then use it on leather ending with cut materials for use in the following lessons.

For this lesson you will need*:

Making the Templates:

• Bristol board (or anything that can easily be cut – anything but corrugated cardboard) This will be used to make your templates. You may use bag stiffener from Tandy Leather.

• Ruler

• Pencil/Eraser

• Pen/thin marker

• Scissors (that best cuts your chosen template material)

• Glue stick

Leather:

• Thin (1-2 oz) leather – Suede works well

• Vegetable-tanned leather (4/5 oz – 6/7 oz)

  • Note we will have Bristol board and leather available for purchase should you wish to just get it at the class.
