Microsoft Global Hackathon 2026 Kickoff: Build "Windows App for Linux"
Details
The Microsoft Global Hackathon is back — and we're building something ambitious: Windows App for Linux, a native Linux desktop client for Windows 365 Cloud PCs and Azure Virtual Desktop.
Microsoft's Windows App doesn't ship on Linux. We're going to fix that — and you're invited to help build it.
What is this project?
A Linux client that lets users sign in with their Entra ID, see their Cloud PCs and AVD desktops, and connect natively (FreeRDP) or via web — with full Cloud PC management (restart, rename, troubleshoot) built in.
Stack: The spec is committed to C#/.NET on Linux — MSAL.NET for auth, Avalonia for the UI, building on FreeRDP 3.30.0+. There's a role for everyone: C#/.NET devs, UI folks, networking, cloud, AI-assisted "vibe coding," docs, testing.
What to expect at the kickoff:
