"OBVIOUSLY" - The most insidious word in philosophy and science

The summer vacation is behind us, so we resume our first Sunday of the month discussions, hosted by Ronald Green and attended by people from many countries. We discuss a range of philosophical issues that may include history, science, art, psychology, sociology, and more. The mix of international attendees and ideas from various countries makes for lively (and sometimes controversial) discussions.
The meetings are for the curious open to new ideas and willing to share. And also for those who just want to listen.
This time we will discuss the word "obviously", almost unnoticed in a sentence yet far from innocent. Speculatively, "obviously" has an effect: it shuts down a discussion and even denies that there is a proposition.
"Obviously" has a function, not just linguistically, but philosophically and psychologically. We will delve into the ramifications of "obviously", including subjectivity, objectivity and the "obviousness" of reality.
The discussion, basically, is about the importance of the question mark (?)
