Rooted in mindfulness traditions, it gently trains the heart to wish happiness, safety, and peace for oneself and others—friends, strangers, and even those we find difficult. Rather than being a feeling we force, metta is an intention we repeatedly nurture, allowing compassion to grow naturally. Through this practice, barriers of judgment and separation soften, revealing a sense of shared humanity and interconnectedness.
