### Details
A challenging training hike focused on building endurance for bigger objectives later in a season. Expect 10–18 km distance and 700–1200 m elevation gain, depending on the route.
Meeting point: Petro-Canada 42148 AB-1 at 8:30 AM
Destination: Selected based on weather and conditions, and will be announced Friday evening

Event pace: steady, moderate (not rushed, not slow)

### Communication

### Navigation
- Do NOT rely solely on apps like AllTrails (routes may vary)
- Come prepared with offline maps (e.g., GemTrek, downloaded maps)
- Everyone shares responsibility for navigation

### Equipment
- Hiking boots (waterproof recommended)
- Poles strongly recommended (especially for descent)
- Weather-appropriate layers (wind, rain, sun)
- Food, water, electrolytes
- Emergency essentials (headlamp, first aid, etc.)
Optional depending on season:
- Microspikes / traction
- Gaiters
No jeans, no bear bells

### Fitness Level
- Moderate to strong fitness required
- Ability to handle sustained uphill effort for several hours
- Expect 5–8 hours on trail depending on conditions

- NOT a guided trip — all participants are responsible for their own safety, preparation, and decisions
- Be prepared for changing mountain conditions (weather can shift quickly)
- Unprepared participants may be turned away

- We hike as a group — no one gets left behind
- Respect pacing; allow regrouping and breaks
- Friendly, supportive, and mindful atmosphere
- Some quiet time is part of the experience

### Weather & Conditions
- Expect anything: sun, wind, rain, snow (even in summer)
- Temperatures can vary significantly with elevation
- Afternoon storms are common — early starts recommended

### Logistics
- Carpooling encouraged — coordinate in comments
- Contribute to driver gas
- Park passes may be required (e.g., Kananaskis)
- Do not rely on cell service

### Safety & Risk
Hiking involves inherent risks, including but not limited to:
weather changes, wildlife, terrain hazards, falls, navigation errors
Participation means accepting these risks.
